Black & white street photography in Venice

I’m a regular visitor to Venice (five trips this year alone) and know the city well. It’s one of those places which just ‘works’ for black & white street photography; think dark mysterious alleys, swirling mist and classic Venetial iconography around every corner - it’s the perfect location and a street photographer’s paradise.

I’ve put together a selection of some monochrome images I shot in Venice over the past 3-4 years, which you can see here. These are, of course, mostly random shots; much of my work is project-driven and I’ll post some of my projects separately.

Earlier this year I shot a project entitled ‘I Carnevalesci Divertimenti’ which is all about the madness of the Venice Carnival (the resulting zine costs £7.50 and you can order a copy here).

Every year I run 3-day Monochrome Masterclass workshops in Venice and also workshops based around the Carnival in February; all the forthcoming workshops are fully booked but later this year I’ll be launching new dates for winter 2024/25.
